I recommend to just start. Decide if you want to do 3D or draw. You can do either one using the software I use: Blender. But there are other free software you can try. If you have an ipad there's some software on there for 2D animation.
Find something you'd love to animate and try it out. Post online, get feedback. The community is always helpful.
Once you get good enough it gets super fun if you have the patience !
